Genetics By Design
At Antler Hill, we have had a closed herd since inception ,with a focus on building a strong consistent female base, this is achieved by ruthless culling and breeding to the most consistent high performance sires in the business, in order to produce a progeny who has the ability to exceed production of their parentage! Our livestock is big enough to be fertile as yearlings, with most dams being great mothers and able to calve at two years old!
Herd management begins with the selection of proven, superior genetics, ruthless culling, grass management, minerals and stress management to satisfy the needs of both animal and human, without the distortion of velvet overgrowth and the feed bucket. This is our practice! We feed NO grain, unless grass is a scarcity. Our females are excellent, good milking mothers (60% to 80%) of the equation. Most are young daughters of ASAU Hard Cash 208 and ASAU Blessed 707 (first and second calvers in 2011). All breeding stock has and must earn the right to stay. Clarity is vital in order to purchase with confidence. When A.I. service is utilized, there are no late calves, because no clean up bulls are run. Calves are tagged at birth. We utilize small paddocks and run a small, select herd. When a herd sire is run, they are out for one cycle, plus one week with 10 or less females in each paddock. Their eye appeal is awesomely striking!

Our insemination program began with White Lightning the Sire of Champions. Strong consistent genetics for Velvet, producing Velvet over 40 lbs. He was third place four times at the International Breeders. Going on to produce many sons who would out produce him, the signature of a really great sire. White Lightning produced daughters with superior maternal qualities packaged in big thick bodies and quite dispositions. Truly one of the all time greats!

We followed with IKR Igor 872, a big strong bodied dual purpose bull who also had the ability to out produce himself.
IKR Igor was a 1996 4 year old International Gold Winner, his sire Angus; a 1/2 interest sold at auction for $125,000. Scored 456 Boon and Crocket. The great, great grand sire IKR #2 who sorted a 9 x 10 hard antler rack scoring 459 Boon & Crocket appears twice in the pedigree of Igor. Igor also claimed 3rd place International 2 year old Breeders Three Winner in 1999. Daughters have been sought after topping many sales in Sask.
We then followed with King, the multidimensional, dual purpose bull producing 50.98 lbs. of Velvet at 8 years and 506 1/8 pts. at 10 years. 4 Time International Velvet Champion as well as Hard Antler Champion. No other bull to date has made this great achievement. King progeny are very calm in nature.
